Come together.

June 19, 2009

Every now and then, I would sit down with my boss and review some of our ongoing projects; usually the ones that need joint efforts from the Malaysia Tourism Ministry take precedence.

When those are done, sometimes, we revisit our primary objectives of the company and to paraphrase her words, the company is fundamentally about “research, preserve and promote”.

And folks, the “research” portion is already overwhelming. Tracing styles that left the mainland, some as far back as 150 yrs ago, to present descendants just here in Sabah, Sarawak and Kalimantan (Borneo Indonesia) is laborious work!

When I first arrived from Singapore, I went through a period of “culture shock” and it took me a while to acclimatize …….And mind you, we are talking a Singaporean Chinese intermingling with Borneon Chinese.

Even within my own Fuzhou clan, I got to tiptoe around their customs to get acceptance into inner circles.

The other aspect of what I do now is liaising with research groups that are sprouting up everywhere on the mainland especially those in Fujian /Fuzhou.

Here again, the “culture shock” is something to beat before we got down to the business of working on projects together.

Well, the good news is that, after the initial stage the language of Kung Fu generally takes over.

And that is kind of “universal”.

Hey music to our ears.

Here’s a book that is getting quite a bit of attention, first published in 1929 and reprinted by various companies throughout the last 50 years, very little is really known about the background except that the 3 forms featured are adopted by diverse styles.

In various shapes or forms.
