Time and tide ……

January 20, 2008

Time and tide waits for no one.

And so the saying goes.

I am still messing about on youtube and came across many clips of old masters from Hong Kong and Taiwan and I said to myself “what a wonderful world”….hahahaha…

Oookay, what I really said was “Wouldn’t it be neat to link those clips and scan pictures/articles from old mags of the masters when they were much younger?”

Sort of a “then and now” showcase?

Which also bring me to my next point; most of what the western world knows about TCMA is through these old books/magazines, published generally in places like Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Which is why you’ll find mainly styles prevalent in those countries expanding westwards; Hungga, Wing Chun, CLF, Pak Mei, Lama White Crane, Feeding Crane, Praying Mantis etc etc…

Styles like Cho Gar WCK, Hung Mei, Hakka Pak Hok, Ngo Chor, Tai Chor, other Fuzhou Cranes, Phoenix Boxing, Southern Fukien Shaolin etc are more “recent” introduction.

Really, how many books or magazines have anyone read from countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines or Indonesia talking about TCMAs?

For one, there were not many published and even then, scarcely circulated outside the region.

Anyway, before I ramble on, here a clip of Master Yuen Man Kai doing Northern Mantis Hei Hu Jiao Cha 北螳螂黑虎交叉:-

I will upload some old pics of Master Yuen Man Kai later…..

For now, some chi-fortifying Carlsberg!

Aha, see what I found messing around on youtube:-

Russ doing SanChiem (2nd portion) of clip.

Resembles the “Ti Chiem” that I do in Tai Chor; overall, softer than Tai Chor but harder than Fuzhou Crane……

Tien Ti Lin – the 3 “battles”…..
