Hakka Wing Chun Kuen
January 13, 2008
Keeping in the vein of things Hakka, here’s a “Hakka Wing Chun” clip.
Footage taken in Hong Kong some 20 -30 (maybe more) years back, got no info of the background of the form or performer.
Duh, this form is announced as “Hakka Wing Chun” so no mail from anyone telling me I got it labeled wrongly.
If you must, write to the presenter ….. If you can find him ……hahaha…
Again, with some historians recording 600+ styles of CKF, how certain are we that we’ve seen the big picture.
CKF is a huge elephant folks, so let’s not be the 6 blind men…
It’s Sunday still, remember?
And I am still in the “preachy” mood…..
Hakka.

And for those who don’t know what “Hakka” or “Khek” sounds like, here’s a song for you.
Go over to Singkawang Kalimantan, Indonesia and you’ll find nearly all the Chinese there are Hakka ….
And they speak almost no Mandarin or any other Chinese dialects. So it’s either Hakka or Bahasa Indonesia.
I can speak minuscule Malay, which is close to Bahasa Indonesia so when I was there, it’s “sign” language….
Strong roots – strong trees.

Arrggghhhh, after a week of scurrying around; commuting, interviewing and shooting the masters, I had originally planned to take it easy yesterday – a Saturday and all…..
But nooooo, I got to attend, yet, another meeting with some folks to discuss, potentially, working with the “Sports Ministry” to introduce a contact sport into Sarawak.
So today, Sunday, I just wanna lay back, have nothing to do with MAs and just do the Zen thing – stare into blank space…..
And have “The Calling” playing in the back; see I am not all “Chinese this, Chinese that….”
Ahem! Having said all that, I’ve got a very “Chinesey” clip to share.
Another song by Zhuang Xue Zhong, originally written by Taiwanese singer/composer Angus Tong entitled “Preserve our Roots”.
Meant to remind all far-flung Chinese that we are all descendants of the “dragon” and to bear in mind our roots, no matter where we are.
Me? I am not so “deep”…I just hope everyone everywhere learns to cherish ways of your forefathers, Chinese or not.
You know, all that “remember the source when you drink the water”, “know where you are from or you won’t know where you are going…” blah blah blah…
This being a Sunday and all – pardonez moi.
